But I would rather have new Port Blue than new Sky Sailing. Of course I would be happy with any new music from him, but Port Blue tho…I miss those tracks he used to post for us.
This has never happened to me before - I heard an Owl City song in my local Belk department store. Here’s the surprise- it was The Technicolor Phase. Awesome, right? I am such a bad Hoot Owl though, since I didn’t remember the title in the first 30 seconds of it. ;)
If you haven’t heard Maybe I’m Dreaming and all of its songs, please go right now and find it and listen to it. Especially that song + Air Traffic. Magic, I tell ya.
Tumblr says I’m following twice as many blogs as I am. So, if for some reason I unfollow you, please don’t take it personally. You are all quality people who have quality blogs, but I don’t have enough time to read everyone’s posts no matter how good they are. Still love ya, but I need to spend time in the real world occasionally. :) Also, if you change your url, please let me know so I don’t accidently unfollow you.
Thanks and have an awesome day / afternoon/ evening. :)
Port Blue is dead for now, according to Adam (in the FB chat). This makes me very sad.
Please re-think this, Adam. I know you are extremely busy with the success of OC, but we love these instrumentals so much. You know we do. Please don’t let this be the end of Port Blue. Could you maybe leave the door open a crack and give us a tiny bit of hope that we may get some more Port Blue someday?
I’m glad you are having such awesome success with Owl City, but many of us love Port Blue just as much. Don’t abandon this project forever, ok? That’s all I’m asking.
Sometimes I don’t think we really understand how much our opinion means to Adam. The music he creates makes him happy, no matter what style it is, and if he should decide to create a million more records like TMS, it’s his right to do it. But instead he’s been listening to us (which he absolutely doesn’t have to do because he’s a brilliant and talented artist whose musical instincts are generally correct). That’s why these EPs are going to be so special - because they are for US.
Don’t get me wrong. Two of my favorite OC songs of all time (“Fuzzy Blue Lights” and “Air Traffic”) are from his previous work. If he made a whole EP of songs with a modern twist on classics like that (or remixes even), I would be thrilled. So I’m definitely in favor of the old music style.
But even if he doesn’t go far enough in meshing the old with the new on these EPs, I think it’s short-sighted to look at TMS as a mistake. We are simply along for this magic carpet ride, where Adam is still deciding the ultimate OC sound - finding out what works and what doesn’t work and trying to balance the demands of Republic and his passionate loyal fans. Just as Of June, Maybe I’m Dreaming, Ocean Eyes, and especially ATBAB were brilliant in their own right, I believe that in the future we will start to appreciate the evolution from TMS to all these new EPs as changes that are good for us and for Owl City.
So anyway, adamyoungofficial, thanks for creating such awesome music and for caring so much about what we think. Create what you love, because you know what’s best for you. We will support you all the way. (And about those classic remixes - it’s a good idea, trust me.)
Free downloads are great…but I was wondering whether the iTunes version has a higher bit rate, i.e. 256, 320kbps, etc. Probably going to buy anyway, but if someone could confirm the bit rate for Beautiful Times on iTunes, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Awesome song, Adam! More pls.
Don’t worry too much about what we think. Make whatever kind of music you like. I will support it all. Just as long as you promise to keep your fluffy hair.
I’m going to preface this by saying - of course Adam should do whatever he feels is right for the release of the new music. If releasing EPs instead of a full album is the way he wants to go this year, fine with me. The bonus is that we will be getting new music from him all year. Certainly nothing wrong with that.
With that said, I think the expectations for his next project are crazy high and I really can’t tell from the preview what the new music will actually sound like, or even whether that was part of the single he’s releasing #s00n. I was happy to hear something new from Adam, but the preview didn’t blow my mind. It was good, but it wasn’t magic. You know what I mean?
We are the luckiest group of fans in any music fandom. We have a guy who cares (maybe too much) what we think about what he creates for himself. But I don’t honestly know whether it’s even possible for Adam to meet the expectations we have for him. Maybe the EPs are a way for him to create something for each group of fans (those who prefer ATBAB and Ocean Eyes, etc vs. those who like the new stuff) instead of trying to please all of us with one full length record.
I know this is sad news for us, because the guy is totally awesome, and he definitely appreciates our support. But here’s the deal - I believe that his career is taking off to new levels, and unfortunately, staying with Owl City might not be the best choice in respect to that. I want him to be happy and have the success that he deserves as the incredibly talented guy that he is.
So I hope that we will all wish Steve well, and just remember he will still be around on twitter. He isn’t totally disappearing from our lives. Just means he will have some different jobs. I’ve heard that Gabe’s a good guy too, so maybe we should give him a chance. :)
